Tours - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between an escorted tour and an air/hotel package?

A: Escorted tours are group travel with expert guides who manage all the details and share fascinating history and insight on every leg of your vacation. These packages typically include air, hotel, motor coach transportation, numerous meals, activities and sightseeing.

Air/hotel packages are designed for people who wish to travel independently, without groups or guides, though they do include access to a local host who can answer your questions and steer you in the right direction. These packages consist of air, hotel and airport transfers in a single city, such as London or Paris. Extras such as a half-day sightseeing tour, theater tickets, museum passes and public transportation passes may also be included.

Q: Why are tours labeled as budget, first class, deluxe and luxury? What is the difference?

A: Tours are classified according to the quality of the amenities and accommodations selected by the tour operator. The more in-room amenities, facilities and services a hotel has, the higher the rating, but you will be assured of clean, comfortable accommodations no matter what type of tour you choose.

Q: Will I need a passport and visa?

A: A valid passport is required of all tour participants traveling internationally. U.S customers apply for passports at local passport offices, designated federal or state clerks of court, or selected post offices. A U.S. passport is valid for 10 years (five years for children). In addition, visas are required for certain foreign countries. If you are a U.S. citizen, ask A Great Way to Charter, Tour and Travel counselor before you book whether the itinerary you have chosen will require you to obtain a visa. Non-U.S. citizens must consult with their own state department or the consulates of countries to be visited to determine if any visas are needed. Securing any needed visas is the responsibility of the tour participant.

Q: What about travelers who need special assistance?

A: Any disability requiring special attention should be reported to A Great Way to Charter, Tour and Travel prior to making a reservation. We will contact the tour company to ask whether they are able to accommodate the specific, special needs of any disabled tour participants. A Great Way to Charter, Tour and Travel is not responsible in the event that the tour company is unable to accommodate any special needs, nor are we responsible for any denial of service by carriers, hotels, restaurants or other independent suppliers.

Q. What is the appropriate tip for the Tour Guide and Driver?

A: An industy standard is $2.00 per person per day to the Tour Guide and $1.00 per person per day to the driver.
